Drawing is my single most precious baby. Not because I’m good at it; in fact, it is because I’m NOT good at it. You see, other than "abstractly expressing", I also day-dream a lot, and I started putting my very own characters from my stories into drawing at a very tender age. They grew up with me, a born loner, like my childhood friends. Due to my lack of talent and training, I need to spend a ton of time on a simple pencil drawing to get it to look somewhat alright.
 Stuff like Dr. Mull Dull are just casual doodles. But these, they are portraits of my good friends! Night after night of my youth were spent on them under a small desk light behind closed (locked) doors. I honestly believe my myopia was their little souvenir. The effort and output were highly disproportionate; what I produced can be drawn 100x better by professional artists on a whim. BUT, those won’t contain the tears, excitement, anxiety, and joy I experienced while drawing them. Every strand of hair, every crease in clothing, every corner of smile, was quality time that formed a strong bond. Life as an adult has stolen my time to draw, but it has not weakened this childhood memory.  So now, please meet my old friends. If they don’t look as perfect as they should be, know that it is not their imperfection, but mine. Love, Expression |
