I rewrote lyrics for this old Chinese song when I was young. It was originally the theme song (Regrets of Today 恨在今天再相遇) for the Hong Kong movie "God of Gamblers II - Back to Shanghai" (賭俠二之上海灘賭聖) sung by Taiwanese singer Sophia Fang Jiwei (方季惟). I know, not the most romantic movie name. But the song has a hauntingly beautiful melody - at one point in the movie, the first lines rang a cappella in the background and permanently imprinted on my young mind:
If we had met at the beginning, I'd have my heart bound
And the fire would remain inextinguishable, up to this very day...
The movie was actually a comedy with famous Hong Kong comedian Stephen Chow (周星馳), yet the theme song was painfully poignant. I loved it so much I rewrote lyrics for it. Looking back, my lyrics are really too green to capture any emotional nuance. I was simply too young to understand anything at that time. But, that was the best part of youth, isn't it?
You can also see my very old drawing featuring the lyrics.

Just a Little Lacking (English Translation):
Once the strangers had no ties The mountain bamboo, the water lily Roaming loners, like the stars that never meet Everything is just Foam in the waves, fairies on the moon Give it a smile, do not let it sink in my heart * On that day I rode away my past The river and wind flowed over my poem I had stood strong in the face of so much disappointment So why is my heart tugged? # The clouds meet and depart, interweaving and overlapping What occurred did not change the scene It is still the same sky Serendipity comes and goes, so do not speak of the past But at the bottom of the heart, there is just a little lacking * # Serendipity comes and goes, always a little lacking |
