My Anime-style Drawings - Ancient China
|
These are my friends from ancient China. Um, please don't ask why they are kinda Japanese anime-style... I have arranged the pieces by my "drawing eras". All of these started with a pencil drawing. Some have been photocopied and colored with color-pencils. A few are watercolor/poster color pieces. You can also check out my Modern/Whatever drawings.
If you know Chinese, you will see poems/lyrics on many of these. Some are ancient poems, and some are written by me. You can listen to my singing of a few of my lyrics in the Songs section under Happy. You can also read my tear-jerking story on the origins of my drawings. Even if you can't read their names, you can still see how they evolved. They grew as I grew! Yes, each one of them has a name and a life. They have loved, hated, bonded, alienated, cried, and laughed in their world. But if I take the liberty to relate all of their stories, I fear this page will never end... |
New!
I finally started out on digital drawings of my dear friends! Words can't describe my excitement!
You can see that I haven’t really been drawing in recent years; the most I did were some sketches… BUT, my family got me a drawing tablet for my birthday!! So, here is my first electronic coloring. It is rudimentary as I’m still exploring (for starters, it looks cramped and I should have used a larger canvas size…), but it’s opening a new world of possibilities for me. I hope to find time to revisit my old friends in this new world.
I call this my little "golden period". Other than drawing a bit better (I know I know, it's all relative), this was the time when their life and personalities started to flesh out in my young mind. In other words, they became my friends. I wasn't just drawing for drawing's sake; I had clear images that I was trying to convey on paper. So these are actually mental snapshots of what they were feeling and going through.
My artistic limitation didn't do them justice at all, but does it matter? Through them, I lived many lives. Thanks my dearies! I love you all!
Excluding the chibis, these are more or less a set of "study drawings" I completed as I started to venture deeper into drawing. Not that I ever went far. Hehe. But heck WAS I DEAD SERIOUS!! There were clear influences from movies and paintings by Hua Sanchuan. I was learning hard ya know!
In digging these out, I was surprised to find that, in addition to quoting famous poems, I actually wrote poems to match each of these drawings! Forget about the actual quality, just admire MY DEAD AWESOME SERIOUSNESS!!

Here you will find pencil drawings from my “first era”, when I first put characters into drawing. This first pass was more like a fashion runway. As you can tell, even at a tender age, I obviously put a lot of serious thought into each of their hairdo and costume, which are veeery classy and exquisite indeed… excuse me? What are you sniggering at? I’m not arguing about my drawing technique here, I am just telling you I WAS DEAD SERIOUS ABOUT THEIR AWESOME COSTUMES SO THAT YOU CAN ADMIRE ME OKAY? Gosh! Some people are just impossible!
